‘An Abduction’ is an experimental piece of multimedia fiction by Daniel O’Reilly comprising three sensory components: text, image and sound, creating a postmodern gothic ambience to narrate the paranoiac hallucinations and mental collapse of a writer. Inspired by the engraving ‘Disparate volante’ by Francisco de Goya, an impoverished young man becomes the object of desire of a non-human entity, and works to remember the spell of protection taught by his mother before she herself disappeared. ‘An Abduction’ is a motion-picture without motion.
Soon The Room 3
The soundtrack for this piece was selected as the official launch music for ‘The Room’ Magazine of Surrealism Issue No.3, and will be published in 2023. It was constructed by means of mixing together disparate field recordings with digital turntables, producing new sounds, loops, and effects intuitively in a live setting. The audio was harvested from an extended trip to South India when Daniel worked at the Auroville International Township radio station, which presented opportunities to record numerous events, ambiences and background noise from village and forest alike.
