THE PASSERBY, a new novel by Ibrahim Abdel Meguid

SULFUR EDITIONS PRESENTS: A LITERARY LANDMARK

“The written word ceases to be a medium and becomes a bridge.”

THE PASSERBY by Ibrahim Abdel Meguid

Translated by Somaya Abdul Wahhab

artworks by Ghadah Kamal Ahmed

We are profoundly honored to announce the global release of THE PASSERBY, the latest masterpiece by the legendary Egyptian novelist and philosopher of the threshold, Ibrahim Abdel Meguid.

Winner of the Nile Award, the Naguib Mahfouz Medal, and the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, Abdel Meguid returns with a narrative that recalibrates the national and global consciousness.

In THE PASSERBY, Ibrahim Abdel Meguid archives an “Ontological Seismic Event.” The psychological suffering explored in this text is the desolate space between the “Name” the world imposes and the “Soul” that pulses within.

When “Lamyaa” becomes a hollow linguistic mask and the body feels like an occupied territory, a “Metaphysical Exile” begins. Every reflection in the mirror becomes a confrontation with a stranger; every utterance of the birth name is a strike against the heart of truth.

Abdel Meguid masterfully uses the “husky voice” as a visceral excess of the self that societal structures cannot contain. It is the sound of the persona “cracking” under the weight of an imposed identity.

This edition is a true collector’s item and a global literary event, featuring:

Masterful Translation: Rendered into English with exquisite precision by Somaya Abdul Wahhab.

Interspersed with the visceral, surrealist artworks of Ghadah Kamal, providing an intersemiotic dimension that mirrors the protagonist’s internal fragmentation and eventual synthesis.
